Our Physicians
Drs. Kurt Gambla, Steve Kessel and Andrea Hucks have been caring for Lowcountry adults since 1989. They recently welcomed Certified Physician Assistant Jason Wright, who shares expertise in adult medicine and will see patients in the office for same-day, urgent needs.
Kurt Gambla, D.O.
Dr. Gambla is a board-certified internal medicine specialist who was
trained in the osteopathic medicine philosophy. A graduate of the Chicago
College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Gambla continued his post-graduate
training in that system, followed by an internship and residency in
internal medicine.
Having trained in the osteopathic philosophy, Dr. Gambla continues to maintain a strong interest in the integration of holistic and alternative approaches with the traditional practice of internal medicine.
Dr. Gambla is married and has two daughters, Katie and Julie, and one
son, Jackson. His outside interests include gardening, karate, scuba
and sky diving.

Steve Kessel, M.D.
A West Virginia native, Dr. Kessel followed in
his father’s and
grandfather’s footsteps when he chose to become a physician
and obtained his medical degree from West Virginia University Medical
School.
He trained in internal medicine at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Va., and is today a board-certified internist. He is a Certified Hypertension Specialist, the former Chief of Internal Medicine at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, and has served on the BMH Board of Trustees.
Prior to moving to Beaufort in the late 1980s, Dr. Kessel was part of a large, multi-specialty practice in Charlotte, NC, where he was a principal investigator for multiple medical studies and was a preceptor for medical school residents.
Dr. Kessel and his wife, Nancy, have two children, Lauren and Jason.

Andrea Hucks, M.D.
A native South Carolinian, Dr. Hucks earned her Bachelor of Science degree
in microbiology from Clemson University, followed by an MBA from the
University of South Carolina before pursuing her medical degree from
the Medical University of South Carolina. A board-certified internist,
she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at
Greenville Memorial Hospital before locating in Beaufort.
Dr. Hucks is a strong advocate for women’s healthcare issues and shows a special compassion for geriatric patients. She serves as the Medical Director for Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s LifeFit Wellness Services and enjoys working with her patients to achieve the most active, healthy lifestyle possible.
Dr. Hucks is married to family practitioner Dan Ripley, M.D., and counts
cooking, entertaining, water sports and college football among her many
personal interests.

Jason Wright, P.A.-C
Jason Wright is a Lexington, Ky., native who relocated to the Lowcountry
in 2008. A 1996 graduate of the University of Kentucky Physician Assistant
Program, where he also served as a volunteer faculty member, he has spent
the past 14 years working in the areas of Emergency Medicine, Primary
Care and Pain Management.
Jason is a Veteran of the Gulf War, US Army,
and served as a medic from 1987 – 1990. His wife, Kimberly, is a registered nurse, and they
are expecting their first child this year. Jason’s outside interests
include fitness, golf and music.
