Beaufort Memorial is committed to quality as evidenced by its continuous efforts to improve. Following guidelines set by The Joint Commission and other voluntary accrediting bodies, improved patient care has always been our focus. In 2006, BMH was among the first hospitals in South Carolina to sign up to participate in the Institute for Healthcare Improvementís (IHI) 100,000 Lives Campaign.
By clearly following guidelines for six initiatives, many of which BMH had already implemented, we joined hospitals across the nation to surpass that number. Through those efforts, we formed a Rapid Response Team to care for patients throughout the hospital, and we brought our cases of ventilator-associated pneumonia down to zero for a record eight-month period. And the work continues.
We have the only public inpatient mental health unit in the region, and through our collaboration with Coastal Empire Mental Health we offer a 24-hour triage system in our emergency department.
